2022 Tax Year Client letter
Dear Clients,
Happy New Year! We hope this finds you all healthy, safe, and ready for 2023! Believe it or not, the 2022 tax filing season is just a few weeks away!
For most of you, there have not been too many tax changes for 2022. We are back to the normal April 15th filing and payment due dates. We are still waiting for some last-minute tax legislation that may affect the 2022 filing season.
We continue to encourage the use of safe technology to upload your tax documents to us using Verifyle. Go to Verifyle.com, sign in (it is easy to reset your password if you forget), and attach your documents as PDF’s. We also use this same system for your signatures for the authorization to E-File your returns. There is a message center that you can use to communicate with us and you will receive an email alerting you that we have sent a communication. If you have questions, please give us a call and we can help walk you through the process. We plan to have normal office hours during the filing season and will be available for you to drop off your documents if that works best for you. If you need to send us hard copies, we encourage you to use FedEx, if you need to mail, please get a tracking number. Cathy will be available for in person appointments. Once you drop off or send in your documents, Cathy will contact you by email or phone with any additional questions or needed information once she has had a chance to review. When the return is complete, you will be contacted for signatures and payment prior to the returns being electronically filed. You will be provided with either an emailed copy of the return, a flash-drive with the return and your scanned documents or a hard copy by request.
We will continue to work hard to make sure that we provide a healthy and safe environment for both our employees and our clients. If you are not feeling well, please call and we will be happy to reschedule your appointment.
We will need all your reporting documents. Most should be in the mail by January 31st. The investment 1099’s should be received by February 28th. Once you have the majority of your filing information, feel free to send it to us. Once you have received the final documents that arrive later, we will be able to finalize your return. If you or anyone in your household is on Covered CA for health insurance, they will receive two forms, 1095-A and Form 3895, both forms are required to complete the returns. If you purchased a new/used vehicle during the year, please include the purchase documents for possible credits or additional deductions.
Form 1099-NEC is required to be filed by January 31, 2023, to your Independent Contractors. If your business paid anyone at least $600 for services during the year, you may be required to send them a 1099. This is also for services that may have been performed on your rentals. We are happy to assist you with this filing requirement, just give us a call.
Remember that calendar year Partnerships and S-Corporation returns are due March 15th. Please provide your year-end information by February 25th. If you need to request an extension, please let us know and we will be happy to take care of that.
While we make every effort to complete returns by the due date, information that is received after March 18th for the April 15th filing date, may require an extension. Again, please contact us and
we will be happy to file the extension for you. Extensions are a request for an extension of time to file not to PAY, interest and penalties will begin to accrue on any balance due until the balance is paid. To stop potential penalties and interest, please make every effort to get your information to us as soon as possible prior to the extension due date in order to calculate a possible balance due. We will be encouraging payments to both IRS and to Franchise Tax Board to be made electronically. These can be set up with the filing of the extension from your bank account, or you can pay online. All payments mailed in should be by “return receipt requested”.
If you are put on extension, please try to get your information to us as quickly as possible. We will need your Business Return information no later than August 1st for the September 15th due date. For your personal returns, we will need your information prior to September 10th.
The 2022 Personal Tax Organizer will be available after December 18th. We are happy to email or print your organizer for office pick-up. Contact us at 530-885-1426, or email cactax@yahoo.com to request your organizer. While not required, they can be helpful in gathering information and remembering any changes that might have taken place during the year.
Both IRS and FTB continue to fight against fraudulent returns. We will need a copy of your current Drivers License or State ID to verify and/or update your information. FTB uses this information to verify that it is really you filing the returns. If you have been assigned a PIN number by IRS, remember that you will receive a new number for the 2022 filing year. We will need that notice in order to complete your return. Remember that the IRS and the FTB do not call you about your returns. Please hang up and do not engage in conversation with these SCAM calls. Never give out any of your personal information or allow them access to your computer! We will also need to verify your bank information for direct deposit or direct debit.
Thank you, once again, for your business and your trust in us. We are looking forward to hearing from everyone in the new year! Please stay safe and healthy. Feel free to give us a call with questions or to schedule an appointment. Remember, you will not need an appointment to drop off your information.
Sincerely,
Cathy, Doni, Jammie and Genae
